The first round of the NICL competition 2018 saw us taking on the new team Cricket Southern Bayside. Having lost the toss and being put into bat, Luke Baker and Aaron Peebles opened the innings making a destructive 41 with Aaron setting the tone with 28 off his own stick. With a sense of professionalism, Josh Gregory went in with NICL debutant Tahj Johnston; Tahj grabbed a hold of his opportunity batting exceptionally well making 19 in a pair of 42 with Josh leading by example with 23. Feeling comfortable Jack Craig and Jay Jhamb were stuck into their work, after losing a couple early wickets we stayed calm and posted a total of 33 with Jack cruising his way to 21. Daniel Van Hees and I put on 24 for the last pair with Dan working hard for his well earned 15. Making a team total of 140 we felt comfortable yet hungry for that first NICL win!
Jay kicked things off with the ball taking a wicket off the first ball of the innings, which set the tone for the remainder of the game. Bakes, Az and myself all bowled through the first pair and kept them to just 4 at the first change. Dan, Tahj, Jack and Josh all bowled well in the 2nd pair and was backed up with some strong fielding which helped reduce Bayside to just -17 for the pair. By this stage the game was well and truly won but still had work to do to win the last 2 skins.
The 3rd pair saw 15yo Tahj take his 1st wicket in NICL and ended up with a 2nd, and was superb fielding at point that affected numerous run outs throughout the game, certainly one to watch in the future. We kept the pair down to 7 and scored ourselves 3 skins out of 3 with 1 to go. The last pair saw us bowl well but without much luck and ended up going down by 1 for the last skin. The final score being us winning 140-19, a win by 121 runs and overall a great start to 2018, although losing the last skin leaves a sour taste to what was a dominant performance.
Mens 1 took on Icon today to kick off the season.
Winning the toss and bowling it was a good way to blow the cobwebs off and get into it start away.
After a great first over by Rob Tinsley we bowled without much luck and didn’t field to our best level and they managed a pair of 26.
The second pair really struggled to get bat on ball at all and though we only took 4 wickets they could only manage -6.
Darren Kneebone really showed what an asset he will be this year with some unplayable balls and some brilliant fielding. This couldn’t be any clearer than the beginning of the third pair and got us going well. 2 wicketless overs followed and we were looking at another pair in the 20’s or possibly 30’s. The pressure we were applying finally cracked them and they lost 3 wickets in the last over to finish on 10.
The final pair never really got going with Mitch Gregory, Daniel Van Hees, Mark Andrew Henry and Patrick Beckham coming the innings out brilliantly allowing them a skin of just 3.
Mitch and Steven Henry opened the innings and without losing a wicket managed to tie the skin of 26 with some smart batting.
Pat and Darren then went to work to secure both skins with a super impressive 35. Beating Icons score themselves.
Mark and Dan followed up with 35 again to seal the game and to take way any pressure on the final pair of Rob and Trappa who managed a wicketless 38.
In the end it was a very clinical performance with everyone playing a large roll in an impressive win.
Icon 33 (0 Skins)
Kings 134 (4 skins)
DIV 2 – BYE
A first up win for Kings Div. 4. Fielding first we managed to keep Icon to 51. Wickets were shared around with Craig Boswell (4/-14) taking a Hatrick in the 12th over to really take the game away from the visitors.
The opening batting partnership of Daniel Dodsworth (35) & Daniel Boyle then got us off to a great start losing only the one wicket for 40. From there the visitors were never in the game, Kings winning two of the next three skins to finish on 95.
Be apart of our great Club as we try to top last season winning 3 Grand Finals.
